Weight & thread count

Thread count is the density of threads per square inch: generally, higher thread counts mean a softer and smoother feel. Our standard bed linen ranges from 130 to 400 thread count. Weight can significantly affect how your sheets feel, lightweight and breathable or warm and soft.

Weave

This important step determines the final texture, plain weave gives a matt finish.
Sateen gives a subtle sheen and woven is extra smooth.

Cotton

Cotton is naturally breathable and gives the sheets a smooth cool feeling and the extra length fibre creates a soft, smooth handle with superior strength and durability.

Polycotton

Our polycotton ranges are a great choice for busy hotels. It’s comfortable, affordable, easy to process and keeps its shape and colour over time.

70 Cotton 30 Polycotton

This is a very popular choice for laundries and is also known as cotton rich. The high cotton content ensures that the product is soft, breathable and smooth and the polyester ensures that it is durable and quick drying.

Flame retardant

All of our beds conform to BS 7177 Medium Hazard (Crib 5) Fire Regulations. This regulation means that the beds have been declared safe for use in many commercial settings such as Boarding Schools, Halls of Residence at Universities and Colleges, Leisure Parks, Chalets, Hospitals, Hostels, Hotels and many more.

Filling

We opt for multi layered mattress fillings. Each layer brings another layer of comfort, support and structure to the mattress, allowing for a comfortable nights sleep every single night. Our special combination of filling also means our mattresses are durable and long lasting, meeting the needs of even the busiest hotels.

Pocket spring

Pocket springs are the spring type of choice in all the high-end beds. The springs are individually nested so each sleeper on the mattress will receive support based on their own weight and sleeping style. Pocket spring mattresses contain individual springs all layered next to each other, these springs act individually and give your mattress something we call anti-roll. With a pocket spring each person receives individual support based on their position, the more weight applied in certain areas will have the affected pockets reacting to the load and supporting your body.

Open coil

Open coil spring units consist of columns of springs all connected together to create the main interior of your mattress, the gauge of these coils determine how hard or soft your mattress will be, for example, a 12 gauge spring will be firmer than a 13.5 gauge spring. For clarity gauges work a bit back to front with open coil models, the smaller the gauge the firmer the spring. But the spring is only half the story, we also have to take into consideration the fillings layered on the spring that will essentially give your new mattress its overall feel under your body. Open coil springs are generally great value for money.

Helping you size things up

This is a very popular choice for laundries and is also known as cotton rich. Before choosing your bed, one of the key considerations you must take into account is the size and sometimes sizes can vary from place to place; our sizes are based on UK bed sizes. Below is a diagram to help explain the dimensions of all our different sized beds.

Weight & tog

All duvets are available in Single, Double, King and Super King. All our duvets come in a 10.5 TOG which is a great all-rounder and is considered a duvet for all seasons. If you require something warmer the Hilltop is available in 12 and 13.5 Tog. Remember that Tog relates to warmth and not weight.

Construction

Boxed wall construction means that the filling is held in individual boxes, allowing for even distribution and preventing cold spots. Channel stitched means that instead of sealed boxes the duvet features vertical channels. This prevents cold spots along seam lines but does allow vertical movement of the filling, meaning it can thin out at the top during warmer months. A wave channel stitch works in the same way but the channels form a wave shape and this restricts vertical movement slightly more than the standard channel stitch.

Cover

Cotton is a breathable fabric making it great at absorbing moisture and feels wonderfully soft and cool to touch. Our T230 and cambric cotton covers give a luxurious finish to the duvet and with a feather pillow product stops the filling from coming through the cover. Microfibre covers give the duvet a smooth and cool outer. As well as feeling great, the microfibre cover looks fantastic with a bright white finish. Polycotton covers are extremely durable and long lasting, and great for those establishments that want a machine washable option.

Hollowfibre

The ‘hollow’ space between the fibres helps to ensure that the duvet is breathable and also means it’s lighter than many other comparable duvets filled with alternative synthetic fillings. If you want a warm yet breathable and light duvet hollowfibre is it.

Microfibre

Microfibre duvets have very fine fibres which are tightly woven and without the hollow space. Microfibre duvets offer the ultimate warmth due to their tightly packed fibres. They are lighter than natural but heavier than hollowfibre, so if you are looking to mimic our natural fibre microfibre is a great choice.

Feather & down

The high feather content makes the duvet feel heavy and luxurious. 15% down content provides excellent thermal performance with little added weight creating a warm, sumptuous duvet.

If you want anti-allergy look out for our hypoallergenic Soft as Silk and Health+ pillows that are anti-allergy treated for extra protection.

Hollowfibre

The benefits of a hollowfibre pillow filling is that they are great value for money. The material requires low maintenance as it is usually machine washable and easy to dry. It doesn’t require as much fluffing and re-arranging as some natural products do. It is also lightweight and breathable.

Microfibre

Microfibre pillows are great value for money and are a quick drying easy to maintain product. The fibres are woven more tightly than hollowfibre and are therefore more supportive giving a soft, silky and luxurious feel, whilst being easy to maintain.

Feather & down

This natural filling means that pillows feel sumptuously light and they are firm, but soft. They mould comfortably around the head and shoulders. A high quantity of feathers means the pillow feels luxurious and the down makes it warm and soft.

Ball fibre

The original fibre passes through a process that opens the fibre before turning it into small round shaped balls, it is an economic alternative to real feather and down giving superior comfort and touch to the end product.
