Welcome to ReStart, the innovative not-for-profit re-purposing programme that aims to reshape the landscape of sustainability in the hospitality, leisure, and education sectors. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to transform old bedding products into new, eco-friendly materials that contribute to a circular economy and reduce waste impact on our planet.
A simple 4 step process
Customer Notification:
- Customer notifies Star Linen (form below) that they are interested in recycling their old duvets, toppers, pillows and mattresses.
Determining Volume:
- Customer notifies Star Linen (form below) that they are interested in recycling their old duvets, toppers, pillows and mattresses.
Recycling Process:
- Customer arranges pickup directly with TFR, based on volume, which currently will be a dedicated vehicle for large volumes only.
Customer Notification:
- A waste transfer certificate is produced by TFR outlining the amount collected and recycled.
- The certificate aids in the customer’s Scope 3 calculations for sustainability reporting.
We have been working very closely with Marston’s on the development of this programme and we thank them for their support in helping us to develop this initiative. Here’s what they had to say:
Star Linen were able to look at a number of hotels in our group and through their ReStart initiative take away over 5,500kgs of old pillows and duvets, equivalent to the weight of four family cars! Rather than end up in landfill they were diverted and re-purposed. The polyester filling was removed from the pillows and duvets and turned into pads that are used in mattresses, kevlar vests or made into new polyester wadding. The covers were then shredded and combined with other fibres were made into soundproofing boards for the automotive industry.
Working with Star Linen we ended up with a fantastic result for Marston’s and an even better result for the environment.
