Star welcomes students from Cardiff Metropolitan University for an industry day!

Star Linen recently had the pleasure of hosting final-year 'Hotel and Hospitality Management’ students from Cardiff Metropolitan University for a full-day industry experience centred around sustainability and understanding what goes on 'behind the scenes’ in a reputable commercial laundry, a leading hospitality bedding supplier, and a thriving hotel with state-of-the-art leisure facilities and high occupancy.

The day began at Snow White Laundry, where students gained first-hand insight into the operational side of commercial laundry, from processing to efficiencies and environmental considerations. The students were given a full tour of the Snow White Laundry and experienced firsthand the sheer scale of the work that goes into producing a fresh, crisp set of white linen for their hotel customers. Thanks to Matt Guy, Ops Manager and Leighton Milling MD.

We then welcomed the group to Star Linen UK | B Corp to showcase how a leading hospitality bedding wholesaler operates, along with an overview of our products, our sustainability journey, and B Corp certification, presented by Lyndsey John, Head of Marketing. The students enjoyed a full tour of the site, including telesales, with a briefing from Helen Jones, GM, and an operational overview from Chris Mead, Warehouse Manager, and Stephen Broadhurst, MD. We couldn't let our guests leave without new pillows to ensure they slept soundly after their busy day!

We rounded off the day with a visit to the Village Hotel Cardiff, where students enjoyed lunch, a presentation from the management team, and a behind-the-scenes tour of the extensive leisure facilities, meeting and bedrooms, and a visit to the GM’s office, offering a valuable look into the day-to-day running of a busy hotel and a list of KPIs to continually improve guest satisfaction. Thanks to Simon Chainey, GM, Vicky Probert, Director for Sales, and Leighton Davies, Sales Manager.

It was a fantastic opportunity to connect education with industry, and we hope the experience provided meaningful insight into the hospitality supply chain and the role sustainability plays at every stage.

We wish the students every success entering the wonderful world of Hospitality.
